Cosmic Rays at Extreme Energies
Interest in extremely high energy cosmic rays has increased rapidly in the last decade. More important perhaps is that that interest now extends well beyond the \usual suspects" to include members of the wider astrophysics and high energy physics communities. Factors which have contributed to this development include: a keener appreciation of the diiculties associated with cosmic ray production...
متن کاملMassive Constituent Quarks and Unified Description of Freeze-out Parameters: Does Qgp Form at Low Energies?
The possibility of unified description of hadron multiple production in heavy ion collisions over the wide energy interval, from few hundreds MeV/n at GSI/SIS through 11 GeV/n at BNL/AGS up to 160 GeV/n at CERN/SPS, has been emphasized recently by J. Cleymans and K. Redlich (CR) [1]. They, and somewhat later B. Muller and J. Rafelski [2], treated this fact as an indication that quark-gluon plas...
متن کاملProbing Physics at Extreme Energies with Cosmic Ultra-High Energy Radiation
The highest energy cosmic rays observed possess macroscopic energies and their origin is likely to be associated with the most energetic processes in the Universe. Their existence triggered a flurry of theoretical explanations ranging from conventional shock acceleration to particle physics beyond the Standard Model and processes taking place at the earliest moments of our Universe. Furthermore...
متن کاملLimiting fragmentation in hadron-hadron collisions at high energies
Limiting fragmentation in proton-proton, deuteron-nucleus and nucleusnucleus collisions is analyzed in the framework of the Balitsky-Kovchegov equation in high energy QCD. Good agreement with experimental data is obtained for a wide range of energies. Further detailed tests of limiting fragmentation at RHIC and the LHC will provide insight into the evolution equations for high energy QCD.
متن کاملUnified model for assessing checkpointing protocols at extreme-scale
In this paper, we present a unified model for several well-known checkpoint/restart protocols. The proposed model is generic enough to encompass both extremes of the checkpoint/restart space, from coordinated approaches to a variety of uncoordinated checkpoint strategies (with message logging). We identify a set of crucial parameters, instantiate them, and compare the expected efficiency of the...
